Having graduated from university with a games programming degree, i found a job in the industry within a month or two involving a hugely expensive relocation. Being my first job out of university, I was happy to get my foot in the door and didn't mind too much that the terms of the contract were not that great. Unfortunately, a couple of months in, the financial crisis hit and I was one of many to lose their job. My contract offered me practically no protection, two weeks severance pay and they reneged on their agreement to cover my relocation expenses. Things were pretty bad, I had no money, lots of debt, a housing contract in a town hundreds of miles from home where I had no support structures and because of the economic situation, job prospects were not great. After applying for a few jobs in the area unsuccessfully I decided to join Aardvark Swift.

Within a day or two of sending an email, I was contacted by Hollie who gave me a few pointers on some changes I should make to my CV to better emphasise the skills and experience I have and employers are looking for. In the following week she compiled a list of a dozen or so companies and checked with me before applying to them on my behalf. Over the course of the next few months as the interviews came up, Hollie was always really helpful in preparing me beforehand and would contact me afterwards to see how things went. Staying motivated can be a challenge when you've had a few knock backs and Hollie was very good at helping me stay positive and keep applying. A few months into the process, I was made an offer. Both Hollie and Pete were involved in the negotiations and as a result I was very pleasantly surprised to be earning a proper graduate wage in the games industry with good benefits and working conditions.

Within just a couple of months of graduating from Huddersfield University I found myself in an awkward situation. So it was not until mid-August before I was really able to start going for interviews, and just as the economy started to go as well.  Aardvark Swift had contacted me previously in the year, and my CV had gone through a few iterations with their help, so that as soon as I got out of Dare, I was ready to start applying.

As a industry veteran of with over 15 years of games industry experience i thought i would never again work in the games industry after i had left it in 2005 to start other ventures.. But the lure of the games industry was a constant iche and so in jul 2009 i decided to close down my other business and get back into the industry.  I called aardvark swift because i had used them to source professional  people back when i ran my own games development company and i knew they would help me get back into the industry that i was surprised to miss.
