Above Land is looking for a passionate Combat Designer to join their wonderful team of highly talented devs. The studio is looking for someone who can build creative, intuitive, and satisfying combat to add further enjoyment of the game.

Above.Land is a stunning AAA open world fantasy experience set in world where humans and leviathans attempt to co-exist in a mythical realm in the clouds. However, an evil magic is corrupting and destroying these beautiful creatures and it is up to you to save the world!

Your responsibilities…
  • Designing and developing combat systems and mechanics for action gameplay
  • Prototype, iterate and balance enemies, player abilities, weapons, and finetune the overall combat feel
  • Create AI, NPC, and enemy encounter and combat scenarios that coincide with level, narrative, and mission design
  • Work with your design lead to ensure the vision of the game is upheld
  • Create design documents and communicate clearly to all disciplines you’re collaborating with
  • Proactively seek feedback to improve work while also providing guidance and feedback to peers
  • Work as part of a collaborative group and help to identify opportunities to push the overall gameplay quality
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…
  • Excellent understanding of combat design fundamentals such as moment-to-moment gameplay, combat rules, pacing, player controls, camera, shooter mechanics, enemy designs, weapons, and abilities
  • High level of comfort working with Unreal Engine’s Blueprint and AI systems
  • Ability to iterate and rapidly prototype gameplay
  • Understanding of creative and game development processes
  • Strong capacity for teamwork and a drive to achieve things on your own with a high level of attention to detail
  • Excellent communication, data organization skills, and feeling comfortable pitching ideas and designs to team members and external departments
  • Good level of written/spoken English
  • Previous AAA experience
