Stellar Entertainment are looking for an experienced and exceptionally talented Technical Director to join their rapidly growing team of industry veterans and future industry leaders, helping to create high impact, exciting games!

As Technical Director, your role is hugely influential in the way that Stellar Entertainment creates today and tomorrow's AAA games. You are a highly accomplished engineer that enjoys collaborating closely with the engineering team to build a technically excellent game across multiple platforms. If you enjoy working with Art, Audio and Design teams to translate their visions into reality, identifying the best technology needed to meet and surpass those visions then Stellar is the home for you.

As Technical Director reporting into the Chief Technical Officer, you will...

  • Lead by example and set standard for the engineering team in the pursuit of excellence
  • Balance hands-on implementation with the need to manage and direct the technical team
  • Provide technical insight regarding design and feature sets
  • Assist in the recruitment, on-boarding, development and professional training of the programming team
  • Ensure that Stellar games are built with a productive methodology and solid coding practices, technical briefs, code reviews, keeping in mind long term quality
  • Work with designers and other engineers to prototype, develop, and refine features
  • Rally the team and create visible, wide-spread support for direction
  • Communicate progress and resolution of issues with the ability to set guidelines for peers and support teams
  • Build effective working relationships with key technical, creative and production stakeholders
  • Collaborate with the other discipline directors to provide a clear vision for the game, and help to communicate that vision to the team

The skills and experience you'll need...

  • 10+ years of professional development in programming roles
  • A minimum of 5 years of leading high-performing engineering teams
  • Proven track record taking major AAA console and PC games from concept to completion
  • Proficiency in and knowledge of C/C++, software architecture & performance
  • Thorough knowledge of software design practices including modular architecture, event-driven architecture and software design patterns
  • Expertise in writing clean, readable, portable, reliable, and optimised code
  • A background mentoring individual engineers from junior to senior level, and teams from functioning to excelling
  • A ‘Team Before Self’ attitude that welcomes feedback and criticism, and enjoys working in a collaborative, iterative, and agile process

Bonus Points if you have skills and experience in...

  • Working on large scale multiplayer games with knowledge of backend systems and infrastructure that can power those to success
  • Unreal Engine 4 or other large engines
  • New IP and diving into the uncharted, unexplored game design realms, excited to make paper features become reality
