Job description

Exient is here to bring great mobile games to the market and are looking for a Head of Art to help them maintain a highly motivated and productive, multi-disciplined art team. You’ll mentor, retain, and develop top art talent in the industry, to support Exient's products.

Responsible for developing and publishing mobile free-to-play games, including titles such as “Lemmings”, “Angry Birds Transformers”, “Dancing with the Stars” and many more, Exient aim to capture and delight their gaming community, actively including them in the experience. The studio shun crunch culture in favour of creative iteration to develop exciting and memorable experiences.

With a natural flair for teamwork and great soft skills, you will keep communication flowing around the art team, whilst working with product owners, HR, and developers on a daily basis. 

Your responsibilities…
  • Conduct the artists 1-to-1s, plan their training, mentor them, and conduct their annual reviews
  • Assist each artist to identify their strengths and weaknesses and give them the relevant opportunities
  • Help create and maintain a vibrant and innovative culture that is satisfying for the art team to work in
  • Guide the art fundamentals of each team whilst instilling best practice used for game art production on mobile devices
  • Spearhead initiatives that grow the studio, creatively expanding employment opportunities by externally outreaching to universities and attending conferences and participation in portfolio reviewing
  • Manage timely tasks into your work responsibilities such as hiring, training and mentoring, imparting your experience to steer process and priorities, and attendance in events, conferences, or university collaboration
  • Plan efficient collaboration and resourcing to serve product needs
  • Act as first point of contact for holiday and sickness requests
  • Regularly communicate to the team, escalating and helping resolve issues, whilst encouraging knowledge sharing to foster a mindful culture
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…
  • 6+ years of professional art production experience, and 2 or more years of experience in project management
  • Ability to provide career development, including mentoring and training.
  • Understanding of how to manage performance, whilst encouraging creativity and establishing best practice.
  • Applicating skills to encourage responsibility and accountability within the team
  • Ability to identify potential leaders then support and develop their growth
  • Experience investigating and sharing new standards and conventions
  • Empathetic leadership qualities
  • Great communication skills
  • Psychology experience is a bonus
