Job description

We're working with a studio who are looking to bring in Technical Director to lead the technical vision and execution for their upcoming AAA IP.

As the Technical Director, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technological direction of the project, overseeing the implementation of cutting-edge technologies, and ensuring the seamless integration of various systems to deliver an unparalleled gaming experience.

Your role will be a 50/50 spilt between coding and management, giving you a full and active role in shaping the studio’s exciting and innovative projects and a hand in continuing their tradition of running a studio that nurtures talent in a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive team culture.

Your responsibilities…

  • Lead by example and set the standard for the engineering team in the pursuit of excellence

  • Identify and remove blockers to the games development

  • Communicate progress and resolution of issues with the ability to set guidelines for peers and support teams

  • Build effective working relationships with key technical, creative and production stakeholders

  • Balance hands-on implementation with the need to manage and direct the technical team (including 1-2-1's)

  • Provide technical insight regarding design and feature sets

  • Assist in the recruitment, on-boarding, development and training of the Programming team

  • Ensure the game is built with a productive methodology and solid coding practices, technical briefs, code reviews, keeping in mind long term quality

  • Be aware of emerging technologies, tools, and trends in the gaming industry, and leverage them to enhance the quality and efficiency of development processes

  • Work with Designers and other Engineers to prototype, develop, and refine features

  • Rally the team and create visible, wide-spread support for direction

  • Collaborate with the other discipline Directors to provide a clear vision for the game, and help to communicate that vision to the team

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…

  • Shipped one or more AAA game in a Lead (or above) position

  • Strong proficiency in C++, ideally with a deep understanding of Unreal 4 or 5

  • Experience developing and maintaining roadmaps and technical plans

  • Resource planning experience

  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience mentoring individual engineers from junior to senior level and supporting with their development
