Job description

Aardvark Swift is working with Supermassive Games as they look for a Network Gameplay Programmer.

With a passion to deliver experiences such as high-end interactive drama and immersive VR, Supermassive Games is carving a unique and exciting path in the games industry. Do you want to join them on their journey?

Supermassive have customised Unreal Engine 4 to build a suite of powerful, world-class systems and tools that underpin their games. Now they need your help to take this to the next level.

As a Network Gameplay Programmer, you’ll be engineering brand new features, from basic prototypes through to robust, reusable systems that underpin all of the studio's upcoming titles. You’ll also be crafting realistic and expressive characters, innovative game mechanics and smooth, responsive control systems for their stable of AAA projects.

In other words, you’ll be playing a key role in developing their games!

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…
  • Strong experience in C++, and have contributed to shipped games on PC, console or mobile
  • An understanding of network coding for multiplayer games, managing the state of each game object and providing a smooth, glitch-free experience to all clients
  • Effective communication skills, as comfortable specifying a task with designers and collaborating on a shared codebase with engineers as you are taking feedback from directors and producers
  • Practical approach with an instinct for what level of engineering is needed, and you can work efficiently at any level
  • Able to distinguish between an idea which requires a rapid prototype to quickly test its feasibility, or a mission-critical system which needs detailed planning and consultation across multiple teams
  • An understanding of an engaging player experience and are confident enough to reproducing it in code

Bonus points if you have experience of…
  • Shipping games on console or PC
  • SDK and technical requirements of Sony PlayStation, Microsoft Xbox, or high-end PC
  • Using and extending the editor and runtime of Unreal Engine

Perks and benefits include…
  • Profit related quarterly bonus scheme
  • Pension and life assurance
  • 25 days annual leave
  • Social events including the famously large summer party

Supermassive make big games with small teams and pride themselves on their supportive, inclusive, and friendly culture where work-life balance is both respected and protected. The studio celebrates and nurtures their team members and seeks to constantly improve tools and workflows so they can focus on creativity, further supported by fast decision-making to allow good ideas to flourish.
