Job description

We are searching for a Senior Level Designer on behalf of Fishlabs to join their studio based in Hamburg and work on a number of exciting projects.

The studio has been creating award-winning, chart-topping games that have been brought to life on millions of screens. They are a studio for gamers, by gamers, and are a reference in developing premium games with deep and engaging experiences across platforms.

Your responsibilities…

  • Team up with designers, artists, writers, engineers, and related departments to create and explore engaging gameplay scenarios
  • Design engaging levels from the first concept to final polish, including blocking and building level geometry, prototyping, scripting events, and integrating enemy encounters and gameplay elements
  • Craft memorable game spaces that excel in gameplay flow, variety, and visual composition
  • Be ready to iterate, considering playtest and feedback data
  • Become the central point of communication regarding your levels for the team
  • Align your creations with the project’s creative vision and identify opportunities to enhance the gameplay experience
  • Align your work with predefined metrics and technical requirements

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…

  • Professional experience as a level designer on one or more shipped AA/AAA titles
  • Demonstrable samples of your level designing work such as levels and geometry in a playable state, with video playthroughs, documentation, and a playable sample being a bonus
  • Strong capacity for teamwork as well as a drive to achieve things on your own
  • Excellent understanding of 3D game space and pacing solid storytelling skill
  • Strong understanding of level design fundamentals such as learning curves, means of player direction, difficulty levels, balancing, pacing, motivation and reward cycles, and accessibility
  • High level of comfort working with Unreal Engine’s Blueprint system and game scripting systems
  • Intuitive understanding of how action games work and why people play them
  • Good level of written and spoken English
  • Solid communication and documentation skills ,whilst feeling comfortable pitching ideas and designs to team members and external departments

It's a bonus if you have…

  • Experience with software such as Maya, SketchUp, or ZBrush
  • Academic degree or work experience in art, architecture, interior design, or industrial design
  • Drawing, art, or Photoshop skills
  • Eye for cinematography
