Job description

Aardvark Swift are supporting Free Radical Design in their recruitment for a Senior Network Programmer. Free Radical Design is a renowned game development studio with an incredible history of success, and they are currently working on the highly anticipated new Timesplitters game.

Founded in 1999 by veterans of the video game industry, the studio created the legendary TimeSplitters series, Second Sight, and Haze. In 2009, it was acquired by Crytek and became Dambuster Studios. 

As a Senior Network Programmer at the studio, you will be tasked with the exciting responsibility of developing the systems and modules needed to construct the framework for the project. Additionally, you’ll collaborate with designers and artists to implement the game code's technical requirements. 

Your responsibilities…
  • Handle performance analysis, debugging, and development of tools for other team members
  • Work closely with lead programmers and other disciplines to realise the project's vision
  • Constantly seek opportunities to enhance the project's technical capabilities, with a particular focus on maintainability, longevity, and efficiency
  • Mentor junior team members and participate in broader management discussions concerning project planning and development
  • Promote and develop best practices across the team
  • Work independently to write and solve problems, whilst also working well as part of a team and with other departments
  • Work closely with production to understand the long-term requirements of the project
  • Develop and maintain a healthy creative team culture
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…
  • Prior network specialism and experience within Unreal Engine
  • Proficiency using Unreal Engine, its interface, and the underlying interactions with C++
  • Competent Unreal Engine Blueprint ability, which includes understanding of bug finding tools and methods
  • Strong proficiency or comprehension of Bash or Python programming
  • Excellent understanding of software design and how to structure re-usable blocks of code
  • Ability to write effectively for documentation, being concise and organised, and making use of imagery and reference where appropriate to convey information
  • Ability to estimate work timelines and communicate with production
  • Ability to liaise with production on task assignment and scheduling for the team
