Job description

Deep Silver Fishlabs are looking to add a Technical Director to their team based in the city of Hamburg, Germany.

As the Technical Director, you will oversee the engineering efforts of one of Fishlabs’ projects, whilst building and coaching the team. You’ll also make sure they have a strong technical roadmap and vision, establishing quality and performance standards. 

Your responsibilities…

  • Work closely with other directors to manage the engineering team
  • Contribute to scheduling and scoping of projects
  • Optimise their technical setup and infrastructure to fit the studios needs
  • Establish roadmaps, standards, guidelines, and best practices
  • Take initiative and push teams to create the best possible technology
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies and products
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks
  • Interact with partners and other teams to leverage shared knowledge and technology
  • Lead, coach, and mentor technical leads and team members, providing career growth plans
  • Inspire the team to take on ambitious goals and to innovate, always striving to improve technology and practices yourself
  • Attract, hire, and retain top engineers
  • Build relationships with external and internal partners
  • Drive cross-team and cross-studio knowledge sharing of best practices together with other directors
  • Be the technical contact for partners
  • Confidently provide hands-on advice, being prepared to jump in when needed
  • Oversee the quality and performance of the code

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…

  • 15+ years of software development experience
  • 7 or more years experience in a technical leadership position
  • At least 1 AA/AAA game shipped on consoles or PC
  • Extensive hands-on experience in C++ and one or more programming languages
  • Experience in multiple areas of game development such as gameplay, AI, tools, engines, and audio
  • Prior experience developing, debugging, and optimizing for consoles and PC
  • Previous experience with technical infrastructure and tools such as continuous integration and source control
  • Mastery of software engineering practices
  • Experience recruiting and growing teams
  • Excellent verbal and written English skills, with solid communication skills
  • Exceptional leadership skills
