Job description

Aardvark Swift is working with Supermassive Games as they look to hire an Audio Programmer.

With a passion to deliver experiences such as high-end interactive drama and immersive VR, Supermassive Games is carving a unique and exciting path in the games industry. Do you want to join them on their journey?

Supermassive have customised Unreal Engine 4 to build a suite of powerful, world-class systems and tools that underpin their games. Now they need your help to take this to the next level.

They are aiming to achieve Hollywood production quality in real time, so are engaging with industry-leading, next generation features for rendering, content creation, and human simulation, which will intensify the player experience.

Working as part of the central audio team you will contribute to multiple projects in development at Supermassive Games.

Your responsibilities will include…
  • Using in depth knowledge of Unreal Engine and Wwise to design, implement, and maintain audio tools, systems, and pipelines
  • Collaborating with sound designers to help realise their creative vision by creating bespoke tools as well as offering support and advice when existing tools can be leveraged to a new situation
  • Working closely with other disciplines to achieve the highest quality player experience possible
  • Producing code that is based on high standards of readability, reliability and maintainability

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…
  • Strong experience in C++, and have contributed to shipped games on PC, console or mobile
  • A creative love of audio, and thinking of ways to push the creative and technical boundaries of what is possible, aiming to create world-class audio without sacrificing runtime performance
  • Effective communication skills, as comfortable specifying a task with sound designers as you are collaborating on a codebase shared with engineers across multiple projects
  • Practical approach with an instinct for what level of engineering is needed, and you can work efficiently at any level
  • Able to distinguish between an idea which requires a rapid prototype to quickly test its feasibility, or a mission-critical system which needs detailed planning and consultation across multiple teams
  • An understanding of an engaging player experience and are confident enough to reproducing it in code

Bonus points if you have experience of…
  • Shipping games on console or PC
  • SDK and technical requirements of Sony PlayStation, Microsoft Xbox, or high-end PC
  • Using and extending the editor and runtime of Unreal Engine
  • Using scripting languages to streamline workflows
  • Knowing how sound designers work, and audio “language” is always helpful

Perks and benefits include…
  • Profit related quarterly bonus scheme
  • Pension and life assurance
  • 25 days annual leave
  • Social events including the famously large summer party

Supermassive make big games with small teams and pride themselves on their supportive, inclusive, and friendly culture where work-life balance is both respected and protected. The studio celebrates and nurtures their team members and seeks to constantly improve tools and workflows so they can focus on creativity, further supported by fast decision-making to allow good ideas to flourish.
