Job description

VR powerhouse nDreams are searching for an experienced Lead Environment Artist to be the guiding force behind a team tasked with crafting immersive worlds for upcoming VR titles.

You’ll collaborate with the Art Director and drive the quality and style of the game's environments, fostering personal growth, mentoring, and peer feedback within your team. Cultivating a creative environment that promotes self-improvement, establish efficient pipelines, and refine awe-inspiring games in the VR sphere.

nDreams have a track record of setting high standards in VR action games with titles like Fracked and Phantom: Covert Ops, and they’re considered to be a studio where innovation meets gaming excellence, and now they’re working on a next-gen PlayStation VR2 title.

As part of their team, you'll be at the forefront of VR gaming in a studio which values innovation, collaboration, and diversity, empowering individuals to explore ideas and contribute their unique perspectives.

Your responsibilities…
  • Lead the environment art team in creating visually stunning environments that match a project's artistic style and technical requirements
  • Uphold high standards and best practices throughout the project's development cycle
  • Manage risk versus visual gains and effectively communicate decisions to the production team
  • Act as a bridge for communication between the environment art team and the project team
  • Collaborate with the Art Director to provide technical and visual briefs for outsourced vendors
  • Share your expertise and mentor the environment art team to facilitate their growth
  • Oversee the team's output, provide regular feedback, and iterate based on the Art Director's input to achieve publishable content
  • Work with Production to own the schedule and planning for the environment art team, defining the team's roadmap for the project
  • Play a vital role in creating pipelines and workflows, considering project scope and limitations, and devising solutions accordingly
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…
  • Proficiency in game art pipelines, world building, and Unreal Engine
  • Advanced knowledge of art creation tools like Maya, Z-Brush, Substance Suite, Photoshop, and related software
  • Strong ability to interpret game design, concept art, and reference materials, effectively communicating the vision to the environment art team
  • Excellent time management skills, enabling you to manage your workload and assist in scheduling and task assignment for the environment art team
  • A commitment to promoting team spirit and the well-being of the team, with awareness of their mental state
Non-essential but desirable…
  • Extensive experience in the games industry, ideally with leadership experience on published products in Console, PC, VR, or Mobile platforms
  • Proactive conflict resolution and demonstrated expertise in project cycles to build trust with stakeholders
