Aardvark Swift are supporting Steel City Interactive as they recruit for a Lead Gameplay Programmer. Steel City Interactive are an ambitious indie developer that released the ground-breaking boxing title ‘Undisputed’ described as the most authentic boxing game to date! They offer both a fun and creative work environment where individuals can express their passion for games.

You’ll be joining a growing and dynamic games studio that works on cutting-edge technology and exciting new games for console and PC. You will take the responsibility for developing features, work with the wider team on planning and delivery, and share a passion for games. Despite the studio's technical excellence, it prides itself on its creative culture, actively generating ideas and bringing collective skills, experiences, and storytelling to their innovative and creative processes.

As a Lead you will lead, develop, motivate, and manage a team of programmers while collaborating with other teams on projects.

Your responsibilities…
  • Develop and implement gameplay systems in a multiplayer environment
  • Work in cooperation with colleagues across teams and departments to design, implement, polish, debug and optimize high quality gameplay features and systems
  • Analyse and refactor code to optimize performance
  • Ensure features and systems implemented are presented at quality within the game experience
  • Meet project deadlines and milestones as determined by Production
  • Write clean, professional, and maintainable code
  • Schedule work with an understanding of and appreciation for milestones, schedules, deadlines, and efficient development processes
  • Proactively problem-solve performance and stability issues when necessary
  • Troubleshoot complex problems as they arise and construct solutions to unforeseen design problems in a timely manner
  • Create/meet project deadlines & milestones as determined by Game Programming Manager
  • Provide technical support to programming team
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…
  • 3+ years of relevant programming experience with at least 1 shipped game on any platform
  • Proficient in C/C++/C# and object-oriented programming
  • Strong debugging skills with ability to work in a large existing codebase, learn new systems/concepts and implement them quickly and efficiently
  • Game knowledge and passion and an understanding of the design principles behind games
  • Console programming experience on Xbox or PlayStation
  • Highly skilled at gameplay programming
  • Proven coding skills, self-directed, capable of working on projects independently
  • Comfortable working in a fluid, changing environment as creative challenges evolve
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivated, demonstrates initiative, and a powerful creative drive
  • Good communication skills
  • Genuine interest in playing games with deep engaging combat and a passion for combat sports would be a bonus
