Job description

We’re working with XR Games to support their campaign to find a Lead Programmer. XR games are one of only two VR studios in the UK whose sole focus is making VR games.

XR are still a relatively young studio who have grown from being a one game studio to a studio supporting six titles. This is thanks to the success and critical acclaim of their previous projects Zombieland: Headshot Fever and Angry Birds Under Pressure, they're quickly becoming the go to studio for VR development.

Led by a team with big game experience at studios such as Rockstar, EA, Codemasters, Playground, Dubit and Sumo XR have created games for some of the world’s biggest brands such as Sony, Rovio, Dreamworks and Lego.

As a Lead programmer you’ll join the team working on one of the new games currently under development. At XR Lead Programmers aren't required to do the management side of things. It is tech heavy, and hands on, with some mentorship involved. You will be making key strategic decisions and be the of the Programming Team to clients.

The right person for this role will already be in a senior or lead position. You will be able to operate as more of a generalist programmer, but solid gameplay experience will be beneficial as well as being able to show strong leadership abilities.

You should also be able to take initiative and make decisions about technical approaches as well as being able to mentor and help other developers.

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…
  • Vast professional experience with Unity and multiplatform development
  • Deep understanding of C#
  • Shipped at least two titles and 7+ years game industry experience
  • Project lead experience
  • Clean and robust programming
  • Experience with Git and other version control systems
  • Creative attitude to problem-solving
  • Ability to work as part of a team and take an initiative
  • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills

Having won ‘Best small studio’ at the 2021 TIGA awards their team is growing in all areas of game development as they transition from a small start-up studio to an established multi-disciplined games studio specialising in full-scale immersive extended reality games.
This role is ideal for someone who is looking to move into VR at an award-winning studio that is very much on an upward trajectory.

XR's studio is based in Leeds with a hybrid-working setup as standard, they can offer full remote for some roles however due to the tech being used on this project the Dev Kit stays in the office, hence the requirement for on-site work a few times each month.
