Lead Technical Artist

Ballistic Moon - Farnborough, UK


Ballistic Moon are seeking a Lead Technical Artist; this is a key role for the studio and you will play a pivotal role within a team of passionate team of highly experienced developers as the studio focuses on creating exceptional and innovative games for next generation platforms.

Ballistic Moon are currently working with a AAA publisher in the early stages of pre-production for a major new project whilst they also create their own IP as well.

You will bring experience as a technical problem solver with art tools, animation and PBR pipelines and technical skillsets and be responsible for communicating on and delivering all technical tools, pipelines and processes.

Your responsibilities will include…
  • Delivering high-quality tools, shader libraries and engine knowledge
  • Point of contact for all technical art and technical benchmarks
  • Advocacy for tech art and best practices, products and tools
  • Create or oversee all tech artwork, both in studio and outsourced
  • Create well written process, tools and engine documentation with supporting images and video examples when needed
  • Work with Producers and the Art Lead to ensure a realistic project scope
  • Bridge the Engineering and Art disciplines, set technical benchmarks and targets for the art team

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role include…
  • 5+ years industry experience as a Technical Artist
  • One or more shipped projects throughout development cycle on console or PC
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational skills and comfortable presenting technical work to mixed competencies
  • Working experience of games industry pipelines and industry standard software, scripting languages, middleware and rendering processes and associated workflows
  • Experience with pre pro methodology and transferring methodology to different game pipelines
  • Thorough knowledge of technical art process from environment modelling to animation to lighting for cinematic, high performance games
  • Can work effectively with outsource teams and provide detailed, clear, and easy to follow guidance
  • Own the design and lead the implementation of the studio toolset and set the standard for the technical pipeline
  • A positive, grounded, collaborative attitude with a friendly and enthusiastic nature
  • Comfortable working remotely

Bonus points if you have…
  • Working experience in UE4, Unity and in-house game engines
  • Experience of gameplay driven game art work flows and technical processes 
  • An interest in cinematography
  • Ability to analyse and recreate art techniques and transfer the results through pipeline solutions
  • Have worked with engineers in a senior tech art capacity
  • Have led junior colleagues and managed outsource partners
  • Worked within an agile development methodology in a senior discipline

Ballistic Moon are keen to see an interesting portfolio which shows a solid knowledge of modern games technology, with examples of pipeline work, shaders, lighting, and tools technology.
