Job description

We’re working with the legendary Rebellion to help them bring a Lead VFX Artist to join their enthusiastic and growing VFX team, working on a mixture of titles including an unannounced co-op strategy shooter title and new dark sci-fi shooter IP.

The VFX team is responsible for all visual effects developed in Rebellions games. Not only particle effects, but screen post effects, material effects, mesh destruction effects and UI effects developed in Rebellions propriety engine “Asura.”

You will be assisting the VFX Director in creating project specific processes and industry beating VFX for brand new titles having key involvement in and direct say in the construction and pipeline requirements.

Your responsibilities will be ……
  • Assisting VFX Director and Art Director’s vision to bring VFX tasks of the highest quality to fruition
  • Be organised and willing to create VFX project bible paperwork
  • Create a set of Key VFX concepts to sell the visual direction of the game
  • Help to build a solid template library of assets that other members of the dev team can use
  • Create a set of VFX benchmark assets, with clear documentation to guide your team
  • Be a mentor and help get new team members up and running rapidly
  • Keep the team focus high and act as a great example to your team seniors, regulars, and juniors

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…
  • Expert knowledge of 3D Studio Max, Maya, Photoshop, After Effects, Blender, Word document creation, Confluence document editing
  • Well versed with VFX tools such as Unreal/Unity and simulation software such as EmberGen, Houdini, Cinema 4d
  • Expert understanding of hardware limitations, minimising any need for optimisation work later in a project
  • Able to reach out to other departments for information and work together to achieve solutions to issues
  • High level at creating real time VFX assets as well as an expert understanding of VFX shaders and relevant maps created for them
  • Solid understanding of real-world pyrotechnics and other naturals, a great feeling of weight, timing, and sense of scale

With a rich history going back over 30 years Rebellion are well known for their incredible games, but Rebellion are more than just games. They have their own film and mo-cap studio, create board games, publish books and through 2000AD, publish comics and graphic novels such including Judge Dredd.
