Job description

Aardvark Swift are supporting Flix Interactive in their search for a Senior Environment Artist to join their team. They are currently working on their own exciting IP as well as some external, high profile AAA projects.

As a Senior Environment Artist you will collaborate closely with the Art Director, Level Designers, and other team members to create environments that seamlessly blend aesthetics, gameplay, and storytelling.

Your responsibilities…
  • Work with and guide the Art team to design, model, texture, and implement intricate and captivating 3D environments, including landscapes, architecture, interiors, props, and foliage
  • Craft diverse and engaging game worlds that reflect the game’s narrative and game mechanics, contributing to a sense of immersion and exploration
  • Communicate and collaborate with the Head of Art, and Design and Art teams to establish and uphold the quality bar of the game’s environments, ensuring a consistent and cohesive visual identity
  • Help manage the day-to-day progress of the team and ensure compliance with project specific update/feedback/production processes
  • Champion best practices for asset creation, optimization, and performance, ensuring environments meet visual quality standards and run smoothly across target platforms
  • Work alongside Design, Tech and Production teams to help define and scope content, considering dependencies and bottlenecks
  • Lead by example, keeping an enthusiastic attitude for the project whilst motivating and supporting a diverse team of artists
  • Participate in staff interviews, onboarding, mentorship programmes and performance reviews, fostering skill development and artistic growth
  • Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and artistic techniques to continually push the boundaries of environment art and contribute fresh ideas to the team
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…
  • Shipped one or more titles in a Senior position within the game industry
  • 3 years of experience using Unreal Engine in the art production pipeline
  • Expert level understanding of game environment creation including the full modelling, texturing, material, and lighting authoring process
  • Advanced understanding of relevant software such as Maya, Photoshop, Substance, Zbrush or equivalents
  • Strong understanding of composition, colour theory, lighting and how these shape a player’s experience
  • Strong support-focused interpersonal skills, able to communicate and collaborate effectively
  • Effective time management skills and be able to delegate and prioritise based on project need
Desirable skills…
  • Skills in any adjacent areas such as Niagara, Blueprint, Concept Art, Character Art, Animation, Level Design etc
  • Understanding of procedural modelling toolsets and/or Houdini
  • Comfortable with both organic asset creation and hard-surface modelling techniques
