Job description

We’re working with Deep Silver Dambuster Studios as they look for a Weapons & Vehicle Artist to join their team, and work on the Dead Island franchise, helping to push the visual quality for which they are well known.

You and your colleagues will strive to set the highest possible benchmarks in realism as you create outstanding photorealistic weapon art assets under the direction of the Lead Weapon Artist and Art Director.

Deep Silver Dambuster Studios have a long history of making some of the world’s most exciting and immersive games from working co dev on titles such as Timesplitters and the Crysis franchise to creating their own IPs with Homefront: The Revolution and the highly anticipated Dead Island 2.

Your responsibilities…
  • Work closely with other members of the weapon art team to ensure consistently high quality
  • Prototype new ideas and technologies
  • Create documentation and technical guides
  • Occasionally work with the Concept Art and Technical Art teams to help ensure the quality of weapon production throughout the art pipeline
  • Occasionally work with the Animation and Game Design teams to help develop weapon combat in-game experiences and improve workflows

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…
  • Ability to create high quality game weapon assets
  • Understanding of the game art pipeline and non-destructive, iterative workflow
  • Excellent organisation, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Willing to receive and appropriately respond to feedback from the Lead Weapon Artist, Art Director, and other artists in the team
  • Willing to continue to learn and improve your own skills; and help other team members to do the same

Bonus points if you have…
  • 3 years of video game development experience
  • Aesthetic judgement to evaluate, interpret, and contribute to weapon concepts
  • Previous experience of Unreal Engine

Please prepare a portfolio which demonstrates the following…
  • Expertise in a mainstream 3D and Texturing software. (3dsMax, Maya, and Zbrush with Adobe Painter/Photoshop experience)
  • Weapon or Prop art in a realistic art style suitable for the current generation of platforms
  • Good modelling, texturing, UV layout, PBR materials
  • Well executed hard surface modelling, accurate proportions, sense of articulation and ergonomics
  • Keen eye for detail, realism, composition, and colour
