Job description

London based studio Quell Tech are on a mission to add a talented Game Designer to their team and help them make incredible fitness games.

As a Game Designer at Quell Tech you’ll work with the Design Director and colleagues in design to deliver a cohesive and immersive gameplay experience. You will work on a range of features from core combat and traversal to metagame and GAAS mechanics, and take full ownership of substantive gameplay features, employing a proactive mindset to deliver outstanding results and solving unique design challenges with insightful solutions.

You can also expect to implement design objectives in Unity using powerful proprietary tooling, and as you settle in aim to become a knowledge leader in Quell’s gameplay systems to allow you to propose tooling upgrades to turbo-charge development.

Quell have built a game changing wearable device which adds resistance, powerful haptics, live biometrics, and motion tracking to the player’s actions without the need for a VR set-up. This wearable device will get players fighting, running, leaping, and dodging their way through an unforgettable fantasy world.

The market for Quell Tech’s fitness games is massive and Quell have secured over $15m in funding from top-tier VCs and angels, including Khosla Ventures and the founders of Twitch.

Your responsibilities…
  • Deliver concise, actionable design documentation which communicates both the functionality and the rationale of features
  • Own larger deliverables, defined by the Design Director, and independently identify the tasks needed to achieve them
  • Plan, organise, and execute key problem-solving sessions to harness team buy-in and creativity
  • Distil results into actionable tasks and communicate them to relevant team members
  • Coordinate with art, tech, production, and QA to deliver sprint tasks on time and to a high standard
  • Maintain the documentation wiki and ensure the team is updated on any relevant changes in design
  • Play an active role in building and reinforcing the culture of Quell as they continue to grow
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…
  • 2 or more years of professional game design experience
  • PC or console game design experience in an action, RPG, or combat role
  • Working knowledge of Unity
  • Excellent written English and verbal communication skills
Desirable but not essential…
  • Shipped games on console or PC
  • Experience of working on a games as a service title
  • Knowledge of C#
  • Experience of working in start-ups
  • An interest in fitness
