Job description

Aardvark Swift are supporting Steel City Interactive in their search for a Gameplay Programmer to play a part in the development of their hugely anticipated and much hyped boxing title.

You will join a growing and vibrant game studio, built around a fun working environment that is dedicated to pioneering technology and crafting thrilling new games for consoles.

As a Gameplay Programmer, you will take ownership and responsibility for feature development, collaborate with the broader team on planning and delivery, and share your unbridled enthusiasm for the world of gaming.

Your responsibilities…
  • Collaborating across teams to conceive, implement, refine, debug, and optimize high-quality gameplay features and systems
  • Analysing and enhancing code to optimize performance
  • Assuming ownership, in collaboration with the wider team, to ensure that features and systems meet the required quality
  • Meeting project deadlines and milestones as set by Production and the Game Programming Manager
  • Crafting clean, professional, and maintainable code
  • Precisely scheduling tasks and ensuring their timely completion, with a solid grasp of milestones, schedules, deadlines, and efficient development processes
  • Proactively addressing performance and stability issues
  • Tackling complex problems as they arise and devising solutions to unforeseen design challenges
  • Offering technical support to colleagues
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…
  • 3 or more years of games programming experience, with 1 or more shipped games
  • Proficiency in C/C++/C# and object-oriented programming
  • Strong debugging skills, enabling effective work within large existing codebases, rapid adaptation to new systems/concepts, and efficient implementation
  • A deep passion for games and an understanding of the core principles behind game design
  • Prior experience in console programming
  • Proven coding skills, with the ability to work independently on projects
  • Adaptable in a dynamic and evolving creative environment
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivation, a proactive approach, and a robust creative drive
  • Excellent communication skills and comfortable working to timescales
  • Effective prioritization, planning, and organizational skills
