Job description

Dorado Games are seeking a Lead Artist to take charge of their Art team and work closely with the Art Director on all the studio’s art needs.

As Lead Artist you’ll implement and maintain efficient art production workflows, managing the outsourcing pipeline to ensure the delivery of high-quality assets, and staying abreast of trends in marketing-related artwork to create visuals that captivate and engage players.

You’ll set the bar for art quality and take a hands-on role to help the team meet project milestones. You will also exhibit strong leadership and communication to create seamless cross-departmental collaboration and use your experience in managing outsourcing and your awareness of current trends and new tech to improve the efficiency of art production.

Dorado have had great success with their strategy title Conflict of Nations, thanks in part to the strong team ethos and collaborative working environment in the studio which situated close to one of Malta’s bays. The culture at Dorado is very positive, with many of their team being part of the original founding development team!

Your responsibilities…
  • Implement and maintain workflows, art pipelines, and best practices for art production, asset management, and version control to maximize efficiency and quality
  • Manage the outsourcing pipeline
  • Stay informed on current and emerging trends in marketing-related artwork to enhance player engagement and acquisition
  • Lead and manage the Art team, overseeing the development in close collaboration with the Art Director
  • Plan, assign, and review team tasks, ensuring projects are completed to a high standard, on time, and within budget
  • Foster a collaborative and creative environment within the art team
  • Providing guidance, mentorship, and feedback to team members to support professional growth and consistent quality of art assets
  • Facilitate communication between the Art team and other departments, ensuring alignment on project goals and integration of art assets into the game engine
  • Participate in the recruitment and onboarding process for new Art team members
  • Review and assess the Art team’s workload and capacity, adjusting timelines and resources to meet production milestones
  • Identify Artist strengths and weaknesses to effectively assign work in the Art department
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…
  • 8 or more years industry experience in Art roles
  • Strong leadership and project management skills
  • Deep artistic expertise and technical proficiency in art production workflows and best practices
  • Strong knowledge and prior experience using industry tools for managing teams
  • General knowledge of industry standard tools, programmes, and software
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience in managing outsourcing pipelines
  • Awareness of marketing-related artwork trends to create compelling game visuals
  • Experience of mentoring colleagues
  • Able to foster a growth-oriented environment
  • Adaptability to new technologies and industry trends, ensuring continuous improvement and innovation
