Lead Concept Artist (DE Remote)

At Aardvark Swift, we’re excited to be hiring for a Lead Concept Artist position with one of Europe’s leading RPG developers, whose titles are known for their rich worlds and immersive gameplay.
In this leadership position, you’ll guide a talented team of Artists, setting the artistic direction and ensuring the resulting games exceed player expectations.
Art direction and style
You’ll be responsible for defining and maintaining the artistic style and visual direction of projects. Creating compelling concept art for characters, environments, and props, as well as producing reference materials and mood boards. You’ll work closely with the Art Director and Creative Director to ensure the visual elements align with the overall game vision.
Team leadership
As the Lead Concept Artist, you’ll mentor and inspire a team of Concept Artists, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment. You’ll set high artistic standards, providing constructive feedback and identifying opportunities for team development. Your leadership will be key in driving creativity and ensuring that artistic goals are consistently met.
Conceptualization and ideation
You'll transform ideas and design briefs into visually engaging concepts, generating initial sketches and iterating on designs while considering gameplay, narrative, and technical requirements. Your creativity and adaptability will be essential in developing innovative visual solutions.
Cross-discipline collaboration
Collaboration is key to this role. You’ll work closely with 3D Artists, Animators, VFX specialists, and Designers to ensure a cohesive visual experience across the game. Clear communication of the visual direction across departments is crucial to maintaining consistency and alignment.
Experience, innovation, and iteration
You'll seek to expand your industry knowledge and explore new tools and workflows. You’ll ensure that your concept art not only stands out but also transitions smoothly into in-game assets, keeping up with the latest trends and techniques in digital art.
Project management
Effective time management is essential. You’ll prioritize tasks, collaborate with Producers, and oversee external resources to ensure timely project delivery. You’ll also review and approve final art, maintaining adherence to the established style guide.

5 or more years’ experience as a Senior Concept Artist, plus time in a leadership role
Experience of working on shipped games
Skilled with industry-standard art software
Effective communication skills and a love of gaming
