Ballistic Moon are on the lookout for a Lead Software Engineer to own and manage the engineering team for one of their major projects, as well as provide technical input on the studio and its future projects.

Ballistic Moon is an established independent game studio, based in the South-East of England. 

They are a rapidly growing team of highly experienced and passionate developers, focused on creating the outstanding and amazing games of the future.

With a major project for a renowned publisher, and their own IP on the way, they are creating new genre-defining games in Unreal Engine 5. They are looking for additional team members to join their group of developers and creatives to help them to realise their vision. 


As a Lead Software Developer, you will...
 
  • Lead and manage the engineering team to fulfil the goals of the project
  • Be fully responsible and accountable for the successful technical delivery of the project
  • Ensure the project architecture, systems and features are built to high and exacting standards
  • Help to plan & implement deliverables required for the project
  • Identify and mitigate strategic technical risk proactively throughout development
  • Build and maintain the technical roadmap and ensure it is aligned across multiple disciplines and delivers on the project goals
  • Provide technical input & due diligence for design features
  • Identify, report and help plan to solve any current/future issues with tech debt, performance, stability or any other area that would be critical to both shipping existing titles and future ones as well
  • Collaborate with design, art and production as well as the Head of Technology (Founder & Owner)
  • Lead and actively raise the competencies of the engineering team through close collaboration, direction and mentorship
  • Build strong relationships with other discipline leads, and actively work to ensure overall project objectives, technical requirements and risks are clearly communicated and managed


For this role, you will need...
 
  • Excellent understanding of software engineering and software design
  • Proficiency in C++
  • Outstanding critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Clear communication and troubleshooting toolbox
  • Ability to own and manage large portions of a codebase
  • Intuitive leadership capabilities
  • Capacity to work well with other members of the development team and the founders
  • Ability to provide clear & strategic thought to the design and implementation of the architecture of games and any improvements that would be required
  • Proficiency in the use of modern IDEs; preferably Visual Studio
  • 5+ years’ experience in C++ software development in video games
  • At least one major shipped title
  • Proven expertise with ownership of an engineering team
  • Thorough experience with writing modern systems architecture for game engines
  • Solid experience with popular game engines such as: Unreal Engine/Unity/idTech/Decima
