Job description

We're working with a UK studio as they look to hire a Senior Gameplay Programmer to join their team and implement engaging gameplay features for their upcoming AAA project - an intense multiplayer FPS experience.

As a Senior Gameplay Programmer you’ll design, architect, and implement sophisticated gameplay systems that are both scalable and user-friendly, and collaborate with colleagues in Design to bring new gameplay features and mechanics to life, iterating as necessary.

Your responsibilities will also include...
  • Tackling complex technical challenges inherent in developing a large-scale, open-world FPS with high player counts
  • Take ownership of your assigned features, acting as a driving force for their development
  • Supervise multiple feature sets and gameplay areas to ensure timely delivery
  • Mentor less experienced colleagues, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development
  • Approach planning, documentation, and communication with diligence and clarity
  • Continuously strive for self-improvement and innovation
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role...
  • 4 or more years games programming experience
  • Shipped titles using Unreal Engine 4/5, preferably on console platforms
  • Passion for multiplayer gaming and a deep understanding of efficient networking
  • Proficiency in C++, software design, object-oriented programming, and debugging
  • Strong grasp of 3D mathematics for games
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, data-structure knowledge, and algorithmic ability
  • Determination to overcome challenges with a methodical and innovative approach
  • Strong communication skills for effectively conveying complex ideas and systems
Desirable extras...
  • Experience building Unreal Engine 5 games in a client-server architecture
  • Familiarity with Unreal Engine 5's Modular Game Features
  • Experience in writing optimised code and using performance tools like Unreal Insights
  • Understanding of a wide range of gameplay systems and architectures
  • Experience writing game code under tight performance constraints
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
