Fishlabs are working with us to recruit a Technical Director to oversee the engineering efforts of one of their projects.
As Technical Director you will be responsible for building the technical vision and strategy for the project, assembling, and coaching your team, making sure they have a sound technical roadmap and vision, and establishing quality and performance standards.
You’ll interact with partners and other teams to leverage shared knowledge and technology, all with the goal of pushing the studio’s games to be the best they can technically be.

Your responsibilities…
- Work closely with other directors to manage the engineering team
- Contribute to scheduling and scoping of projects
- Optimize technical setup and infrastructure to fit studio needs
- Establish roadmaps, standards, guidelines, and best practices
- Take the initiative and push teams to create the best possible technology
- Identify and evaluate new technologies and products
- Identify and mitigate technical risks
- Lead, coach and mentor technical leads and team members
- Provide career growth plans to their engineers and leads
- Strive to improve studio technology and practices
- Build your team of engineers and inspire them to take on ambitious goals and to innovate
- Build relationships with external and internal partners
- Drive cross-team and cross-studio knowledge sharing of best practices together with other Directors
- Be the technical contact for studio partners
- Provide hands-on advice and be prepared to jump in when needed
- Oversee the quality and performance of their code
- 15 years of software development experience
- 7 or more years’ experience in a technical leadership position
- 1 or more AA - AAA shipped console/PC games
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science (or comparable experience)
- Extensive hands-on experience in C++ and at least one more programming language
- Experience in multiple areas of game development (gameplay, AI, tools, engines, audio, etc.)
- Experience developing, debugging, and optimizing for consoles and PC
- Experience with technical infrastructure and tools (continuous integration, source control, etc.)
- Mastery of good software engineering practices
- Experience recruiting and growing teams
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills, including fluency in English
- Willing to relocate to the greater Hamburg, Germany area and be on-site weekly
- Unreal Engine
- Working on multi-platform titles
- Working with remote teams
